The PM Vishwakarma Yojana is a well-thought-out scheme for people who work with their hands. It respects your skill and gives you the tools, training, and money to grow your business. Whether you are a carpenter in North 24 Parganas, a potter in Bankura, or a tailor in Murshidabad — this scheme is for you.

What is the PM Vishwakarma Yojana?

The PM Vishwakarma Yojana is a central government scheme. It focuses on 18 different types of traditional trades. The main goal is to give identity and support to local workers.

In West Bengal, many talented people work in rural and urban areas. This scheme gives them a “Vishwakarma Certificate” and an ID card. This helps them get recognized as professional workers across India.

What Benefits Does the Scheme Offer?

The PM Vishwakarma Yojana is not just about giving loans. It is a full package that supports an artisan at every step.

1. Free Skill Training

Once you register, you are given basic training for 5 to 7 days. The training is around 40 hours long. You can also opt for advanced training that lasts for 15 days or 120 hours.

During the entire training period, the government pays you ₹500 per day as a stipend. This means you do not lose your daily wage while learning new skills.

2. Toolkit E-Voucher of ₹15,000

After you complete the basic training, you get an e-voucher worth ₹15,000. You can use this to buy modern tools and equipment for your trade. The money is transferred directly to your bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). No middleman. No cut.

3. PM Vishwakarma Certificate and ID Card

Every beneficiary gets a special certificate and an ID card. This gives you official recognition as a skilled artisan. It also helps you apply for bank loans and other government schemes in the future.

4. Collateral-Free Loan up to ₹3 Lakh

This is perhaps the biggest benefit. Under the scheme, you can get a loan without pledging any property or asset. The loan is given in two parts:

First instalment: ₹1 lakh, to be repaid in 18 months.

Second instalment: ₹2 lakh, to be repaid in 30 months.

The interest rate is only 5% per year. The government pays the remaining interest (up to 8%) on your behalf. So the actual loan is very cheap.

5. Digital Transaction Incentive

If you use digital payments (like UPI or QR codes) for your business, you get an extra reward — ₹1 per transaction, up to 100 transactions every month.

Special Update for West Bengal in 2026

There is a significant change for West Bengal this year. In May 2026, the new state government led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that all central schemes, including PM Vishwakarma Yojana, will now be implemented smoothly in the state.

Previously, the scheme faced hurdles in Bengal. Around 8.65 lakh applications were filed by Bengal’s artisans, but many were not forwarded to the central MSME ministry. The new government has promised to clear this backlog and ensure every eligible artisan gets the benefit.
