What is PM Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)?
PM Fasal Bima Yojana is a government scheme launched in 2016. Its main job is to provide affordable crop insurance to farmers. In simple words, you pay a very small amount (premium) to insure your crop. If your crop gets damaged due to a natural disaster, the insurance company pays you a big sum to cover the loss.
The rest of the premium amount is paid by the government as a subsidy, so you don’t have to bear the full cost. The scheme covers all kinds of farmers, including sharecroppers and tenant farmers
PM Fasal Bima Yojana 2026 Eligibility
Farmer Type:Â All farmers (small, marginal, large), including tenant farmers and sharecroppers who are growing crops on the land.
Crop Type:Â You must be growing a crop that is covered (notified) by the scheme in your district. Most major food and oilseed crops are covered.
Loan Status:Â You don’t need a bank loan to apply. You can apply voluntarily without a loan.
Land Record:Â You must have proper land records (like a Record of Rights or Khatauni) to prove you are farming that piece of land.
Bank Account:Â A bank account is mandatory to receive the claim amount. Your bank account must be linked to your Aadhaar number.
Documents For PM Fasal Bima Yojana Application
Keep these documents handy before you start the online application. You will need clear scans or photos of them.
Aadhaar Card:Â A copy of your Aadhaar card. Your mobile number must be linked to Aadhaar for OTP verification.
Land Records:Â A copy of your land ownership or tenancy document (Patta, Record of Rights).
Bank Passbook:Â A copy of the first page of your bank passbook showing the account number and IFSC code. This is where the claim money will be deposited.
Identity Proof:Â A voter ID card or any other government ID.
Passport Size Photo:Â A recent colour photograph.
Crop Sowing Declaration:Â A statement of what crop you have sown in which field. Some banks or Common Service Centres (CSCs) may ask for an affidavit for this.
PM Fasal Bima Yojana Online Registration
Step 1: Open the official website at pmfby.gov.in on your phone or computer.
Step 2: Click on the “Farmer Corner” option on the home page.
Step 3: Choose “Login for Farmer” if you already have an account, or click “Guest Farmer” to make a new one.
Step 4: Fill in your personal details, bank account info, and your exact farm address.
Step 5: Upload clear photos of your Aadhaar card, bank passbook, and land papers.
Step 6: Click “Submit” to finish. You will get a message on your phone with a tracking number.

Why Should West Bengal Farmers Apply?
